Dear friends and neighbors,

As the government shutdown continues, I want to be a resource for all Ohioans. My offices remain fully open and operational, and my team can help with any issues you may have with a federal agency. For more information, please visit my website here or call my Columbus office at 614-369-4925.

I’ve now voted TEN times to keep the government open. It takes 60 votes in the Senate to advance a funding bill—and unfortunately, Senate Democrats continue to obstruct rather than help us reopen the government with a clean, nonpartisan extension of funding.

While hundreds and thousands of public servants go to work without pay, it’s only right that Congress doesn’t keep collecting a paycheck. I submitted a letter to the Financial Clerk of the Senate to withhold my salary until the government shutdown ends.

Working together is possible—and we were reminded of that last week when the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) passed the Senate with bipartisan support. The NDAAis the annual law that sets the spending levels for national defense policies and programs. It includes funding for many critical Ohio projects.

It’s also wrong for the men and women of our military to go without pay because of partisan games. I’m backing the Pay Our Military Act to ensure that our servicemembers are paid while we work to get the government functioning again.

I’ll continue to vote to reopen the government and serve the American people.

Please know that during this time, government programs involving public safety and the protection of property remain fully operational.
