Dear friends and neighbors,
Small businesses are at the heart of Ohio’s economy—I’ve always said there is no better place in the nation to start and grow a business than in Ohio.
That’s why I worked with Senate Republicans to pass a budget law that gives more Ohioans the ability to achieve their version of the American dream.
Our budget law makes Ohioans more prosperous by protecting the 20% small business deduction. If Democrats had succeeded in blocking this budget law, 842,000 Ohio small businesses would have lost their small business tax deduction. This protection will create 1.2 million new jobs annually over the next decade, and 2.4 million more annually after that.
These pro-growth policies will continue to bring good jobs to our state.
And I believe hardworking Ohioans deserve to keep more of their paychecks. The budget law stops taxes on tips and overtime pay.
As we work to create good jobs, I’m making sure Ohio keeps supporting Americans as they prepare to join the workforce.
Building on work I did to increase workforce Pell Grant eligibility, the budget law helps Ohioans become career-ready by making short-term, accredited, workforce-aligned programs eligible for Pell grants. The inclusion of workforce Pell in the budget law is a major win for Ohio students, community colleges, and employers.
To make the most of Ohio’s talent, we’re focused on bringing more manufacturing jobs back home. The budget law gives manufacturers more freedom and resources to create and sustain jobs at home in our state.
The budget I supported empowers job creators by letting them expense investments in new factories, machinery, research and development, and equipment as soon as they make those investments. This boosts manufacturing in states like Ohio.
Part of this policy came from the American Innovation and Jobs Act, which I cosponsored.
I’ll continue supporting pro-growth policies like that bill and our budget law to keep Ohio one of the top states to run a business.
