Husted leads bill to keep roads safe and strengthen American industry

February 10, 2026

“This bill would keep taxpayer dollars at home, support Ohio businesses and reinforce that you can’t have Made-in-America without Made-in-Ohio.”

WASHINGTON – Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) today joined Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) in introducing the bipartisan Paving the Way for American Industry Act. This bill would strengthen domestic manufacturing by updating the Build America, Buy America Act to ensure certain yellow pigments made entirely in the United States can be used for road, highway and airport surface markings.

“From the roads we drive on to the materials that make them safe, the Paving the Way for American Industry Act is about bringing American manufacturing back home and making sure the products we rely on every day are proudly Made-in-America. This bill would keep taxpayer dollars at home, support Ohio businesses and reinforce that you can’t have Made-in-America without Made-in-Ohio,” said Husted.

“From the cars we own, to the yellow pigment that marks the roads we drive, I want it made right here in America. Our bipartisan bill, the Paving the Way for American Industry Act ensures that preference is given to pigments manufactured in Michigan, not China,” said Slotkin.

Currently, 96% of the yellow pigment used on U.S. highways is imported from countries like China and India. By prioritizing American-made materials, the Paving the Way for American Industry Act would keep taxpayer dollars at home, support domestic manufacturing and protect U.S. jobs.

This legislation builds on Husted’s work to strengthen our domestic supply chain. His bill, the Resilient Tire Supply and Jobs Act would create a new federal tax credit for taxpayers who buy and use retreaded tires that are made in America.
