Dear friends and neighbors,
My goal is to take Ohio’s voice and values to Washington, and one of the ways I do that is hosting telephone town halls to listen to Ohioans’ concerns and answer questions.
On my most recent call, several people voiced concerns about robocalls and scammers. After that call, I joined a bill called the Foreign Robocall Elimination Act, which would create a task force to develop strategies alongside the Department of Justice to combat foreign robocalls and prosecute those responsible. This would be a step toward combatting these illicit calls and equipping our law enforcement agencies with the tools they need to keep you and your loved ones safe from potential fraudsters.

I connected with more than 21,000 southwest Ohioans to discuss the SAVE America Act, small businesses, and more.
Ohioans also told me on the call:
- You want to see the SAVE America Act passed into law.
I am a cosponsor of the SAVE America Act. When I was Ohio’s Secretary of State, my mission was always to make it easy to vote and hard to cheat in our elections. This legislation follows that same philosophy by requiring we verify a voter is an American citizen before they register and asking them to show photo I.D. at the polls. On my teletownhall, Ohioans told me they are for it, and I am fighting alongside you.
- You want to know how the Working Families Tax Cuts Act affects your family.
This bill is financial freedom for millions of Americans. For employees, the bill offers no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, a tax cut for Ohioans on Social Security, and a $2,200 per child tax credit. That will save Ohioans thousands of dollars.
It also improves tax deductions for small business owners, which means hiring new employees, making wages more competitive for their current employees, and so much more.
- You are concerned about sanctuary cities.
Let me be clear: If any law enforcement agency arrests someone for committing a crime and knows that person is also in the country illegally, they should–as they always have–notify federal officials. Any elected official who supports a policy prohibiting that coordination is derelict in their duties by tying the hands of their police force and putting criminal, illegal immigrants above the safety of their own citizens–that includes any effort to turn a city into a sanctuary city.
On the call, I asked listeners their thoughts on reducing fraud in our education system, increasing the child tax credit, and increasing capital to small businesses in rural and low-income areas. Here is what they said:

The U.S. Senate will soon vote on the SAVE America Act—a bill to require people to show a valid ID before voting in our elections. I believe that in America, like Ohio, it should be easy to vote and hard to cheat. That’s why I support the SAVE America Act.

In Minnesota, the state awards daycares based on enrollment. This opened the floodgates to fraud because there is no verification process to ensure students are actually in attendance. In Ohio, we have an attendance-based award system to make sure that these centers are actually caring for children.

The Working Families Tax Cuts Act, a law to lower costs for working families across Ohio, includes a provision that raises the Child Tax Credit to $2,200 per child. This will give much-needed relief to families who had to make the decision between paying their bills and caring for their families.
