Dear friends and neighbors,
One of the top concerns I hear from Ohioans is the sheer amount of fraud flowing out of Washington. Every dollar stolen by fraudsters is a dollar taken from hardworking taxpayers. I’m fighting to make sure the kind of abuse we’ve seen in places like Minnesota never happens again.
What am I doing to tackle fraud?
Launching the Education Fraud Task Force
Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) and I launched the Education Fraud Task Force to tackle fraud in federal education funding. Our first action was writing to Education Secretary Linda McMahon, urging the U.S. Department of Education to partner with the U.S. Senate to identify and eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse in our education systems.
Demanding Accountability in Minnesota
I also joined the entire Senate Republican Conference in a letter to Governor Tim Walz (D-Minn.) requesting information regarding the ongoing federal investigations into the alleged fraud and abuse of taxpayer-funded programs in Minnesota.
Clawing Back Unspent COVID Funds
In addition, I’m leading the CLOSE Act to cancel unspent tax dollars allocated during the COVID-19 pandemic for emergency unemployment payments and formally terminate the program. This bill focuses on fiscal responsibility and protecting hard-earned taxpayer dollars.
Stopping Fraudulent Health Care Payments
Recently, I joined my Senate Republican colleagues in writing to the U.S. Department of Justice, urging them to investigate Obamacare subsidy payments made during the Biden administration due to fraudulent or unauthorized enrollments in health insurance plans. Taxpayers should not be on the hook for improper payments, and we’re pushing to recover any dollars that were wrongly spent.

We have a responsibility to root out fraud, protect taxpayer dollars, and make sure government funds reach the Americans who truly need them. I will continue working with my colleagues in the U.S. Senate and the administration to crack down on the waste, fraud, and abuse happening in communities across our country.
