Dear friends and neighbors,
It’s an honor to represent Ohio in the U.S. Senate. Working on behalf of Ohio’s seniors is one of my top priorities. Whether it’s stopping AI-powered financial scams, restoring pensions that were unfairly taken from them, or advocating for seniors through the budget law, I’m working every day to defend Ohioans’ hard-earned savings.
Fraudsters stole more than $12.5 billion from consumers in 2024, which is a 25% increase from 2023, according to Federal Trade Commission data.
As bad actors continue to scheme, we must ensure that we utilize AI to safeguard people against these scams.
One way I’m protecting our seniors is through the Preventing Deep Fake Scams Act. Today’s scammers are using AI technology to create emails, phone calls, and text messages in order to exploit Americans financially. These messages deceive victims into believing a loved one is in danger and then ask the victim to give the fraudsters money or access to financial resources in order to “rescue” the family member.
I wrote this bipartisan bill to determine how financial institutions can utilize AI to protect against fraud and identify the potential risks that arise when bad actors abuse AI technology.
I’m also leading the effort to restore the pensions of salaried workers from Delphi. More than 5,100 Ohioans lost their pensions in 2009 in the wake of a bad government bailout, even though these Ohioans worked hard and kept up their commitments to their employer.
My bill, the Susan Muffley Act of 2025, would make sure these retirees receive a lump sum payment that covers the pension benefits they should have received over the past 15 years, with 6% interest added to account for the delay.
I wrote the bill so that it would fully restore their pensions going forward, ensuring retirees receive the payments they were initially promised, as if the disruption had not occurred.
These workers earned their pensions through decades of hard work. It’s right and fair that they receive the retirement they were promised, and I will continue to advocate for them.
We also remembered Ohio seniors in the budget law by expanding their standard deduction to $6,000—putting more money back in their pockets.
Working on behalf of seniors is one of my top priorities—and that’s why I made sure we got the budget law across the finish line.
