WASHINGTON – Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) today joined the president at the White House for the signing of the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Reauthorization Act into law. Husted was one of nine U.S. senators to champion this legislation.
The SUPPORT Act reauthorizes expiring programs that support opioid and substance abuse prevention, treatment and recovery, such as residential treatment programs for pregnant and postpartum women, training for first responders, resources for individuals in recovery re-entering the workforce and programs to support children and youth mental health.
“Ohio is one of the ten states hit hardest by the opioid crisis and addiction. This crisis continues to take lives while devastating families and communities across our state. With the SUPPORT Act now law, we renew key treatment and recovery programs for those suffering from addiction, expand workforce reentry support and reauthorize programs for moms and babies affected by substance use disorders. I’m proud to support a law that equips people battling addiction with the tools they need to recover and rebuild their lives,”said Husted.
In 2023, Ohio recorded 4,452 unintentional drug overdose deaths.
The SUPPORT Act passed the Senate on Sept. 18, 2025, and the House of Representatives on June 4, 2025, with bipartisan support. Husted was part of a coalition of nine bipartisan senators to sponsor this bill.
This law builds on Husted’s ongoing work to reduce drug overdoses in Ohio and across the country. Earlier this year, he backed the HALT Fentanyl Act, which Trump signed into law, and permanently extended the class-wide scheduling order for fentanyl-related substances. This law closed a dangerous loophole that drug traffickers exploited.
