Husted connects with northeast Ohioans during telephone town hall

Dear friends and neighbors,

Since my first day in office, my priority has been to provide you with excellent customer service and effectively bring Ohio’s voice and values to our nation’s capital. One of the ways I do that is by hosting telephone town halls regularly to listen to and answer questions from Ohioans. Thank you to everyone who listened and participated.

I connected with nearly 26,000 northeast Ohioans to discuss investments in our military and how                                                                             I can better serve you.

Hearing from you

I had a great question from a caller about making investments in our military. I’m proud to have secured $60 million for Ohio’s national defense priorities, including a new runway and Human Performance Wing Laboratory at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. The laboratory will advance capabilities in training, bioeffects, and bioengineering. The defense package will also include a pay raise for servicemembers.

A few of you also asked me about the Affordable Care Act subsidies. I’ve been in the Senate for less than a year, and while I wasn’t there when Congress created this problem, I want to be a part of the solution. Health care is the biggest driver of rising costs in the 21st century. That’s why I introduced the Accountability for Better Care (ABC) Act. The bill would extend enhanced ACA premium tax credits for two years and include reforms to reduce fraud, lower premiums, and protect long-standing conscience rights for millions of Americans.

I also heard concerns about the Department of Commerce’s decision to suspend the Ohio Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) award. I want you to know that I’ve now written two letters, one on my own and another alongside members of the Ohio Congressional delegation, urging the department to lift the suspension. The program’s technical assistance—ranging from automation and robotics integration to cybersecurity upgrades, supply-chain strengthening, workforce development and AI-enabled plant modernization—is indispensable to the competitiveness of both rural and urban manufacturers across the state. For many Ohio companies, the MEP is their engineering, process-improvement and innovation capability.

On the call, I asked listeners their thoughts on reducing fraud in our health care system, a constitutional amendment to balance the federal budget, and making non-addictive prescription medications available over-the-counter. Here are the results:
