Dear friends and neighbors,

For the past 25 years, Ohioans have trusted me to represent their voices, and I’ve been committed to providing my constituents with the best possible customer service. As part of that commitment, I’ve made it a priority to host telephone town halls so I can hear from Ohioans about the issues that matter to them.

In 2024 alone, older Americans reported they lost $4.89 billion and fell victim to 147,127 scams.

In a recent call, I shared, along with two Ohio experts, tips for preventing financial scams, especially those targeting older Ohioans. More than 21,000 Ohioans joined us for this conversation. Together, we answered questions, shared best practices, and provided tools to help them and their families stay safe and secure.

We’re seeing financial crimes against older Americans increase, as bad actors are leveraging emerging technology—like artificial intelligence (or AI)—to defraud and scam the most vulnerable people in our country.

This year, I’ve supported two bipartisan bills to protect you and your loved ones from AI-driven financial scams and to replace stolen refund checks through direct deposit.

My bill, the Preventing Deep Fake Scams Act, would protect Ohio’s seniors, families, and small business owners from malicious actors who exploit their compassion by establishing a task force on AI in the financial services sector.

I’m also backing the Recovery of Stolen Checks Act, which would allow taxpayers who have had their IRS paper refund checks stolen to receive replacement checks electronically.

During my recent telephone town hall, more than 21,000 Ohioans joined me to talk about protecting themselves from financial scams.

Throughout our conversations, I asked Ohioans different questions to see if they or their loved ones had experienced financial scams. Here is some of their feedback:

During telephone town halls, it’s important to me that the topics we discuss are helpful to you. That’s why I ask for feedback throughout every telephone town hall.

Understanding your priorities is the best way for me to represent Ohioans effectively in the Senate, so please keep in touch. Here’s how:

Resources for you:

As your U.S. Senator, my number one goal is to be a resource for you.
