Dear friends and neighbors,

During my time in public service, I’ve made it my mission to ensure Ohioans have access to the best education possible so they can achieve their version of the American dream.

As Speaker of the Ohio House, I created the EdChoice Scholarship to expand educational freedom. I believe Ohio’s children should have the opportunity for a good education, regardless of their zip code, without the fear of being trapped in failing school districts.

Since day one, I’ve championed school choice and innovative education solutions like AI toolkits. I’ve pioneered job training programs like TechCred to give every Ohioan a way to earn the credentials they need to land good jobs. And now, I’m building off that work in the U.S. Senate.

Recently, I introduced three new bills to support Ohio students.

Protecting students from crushing debt

College tuition has increased by almost 200% since 1963, after adjusting for inflation. Students deserve to have the information they need to make informed decisions to avoid debt that can shackle them for years.

The DECIDE Act would help students understand the financial commitments that can come with attending college. My bill would make sure students and families can access key information like graduation rates, average annual cost, median debt, and median earnings from the College Scorecard. Informing students now helps them achieve a strong financial footing for their futures.

Promoting AI learning

As AI plays a more and more crucial role in our economy and job markets, American students must keep up. I wrote the RAISE Act to prepare our students for the future.

This bill encourages states to add AI and technology literacy to their state education standards, as established in the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Adding AI would make it clear that just like math, reading, and science—AI is a core part of educating America’s students.

Our economy and national defense won’t outpace adversaries like China unless America dominates the AI race.

Expanding career teach awareness

Career technical education (CTE) programs give students an affordable path to good jobs, and they help employers fill in-demand roles. That’s why I helped expand Workforce Pell Grants in the budget law. Now, students can access federal aid for short-term, high-quality training instead of waiting years for credentials that open doors to better careers.

To help students understand the opportunity and affordability that CTE offers, I’m also leading the Student Debt Alternative and CTE Awareness Act.

My bill would expand the Department of Education’s Federal Student Aid website to provide information about CTE programs, Workforce Pell Grants, and Perkins Grant funding. This information equips students with options that could help them build successful careers faster.

These three bills give more students better access to education and opportunities—without debt weighing them down, and with the tools to stay globally competitive.
