“The Summit County Collaborative Against Human Trafficking is raising awareness and supporting victims, and I’m thankful for their efforts. As Ohio takes action locally, I’ll continue working to pass a federal law that would help law enforcement identify and stop human trafficking in a variety of work places.”

AKRON, Ohio – Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) spent today meeting with the Summit County Collaborative Against Human Trafficking in Akron to discuss how to combat human trafficking in Ohio. Husted and the local organizations discussed his bill, the Enhancing Detection of Human Trafficking Act, as a tool for rescuing trafficking victims and bringing justice to their abusers.

“Human trafficking exploits innocent children and adults within Ohio’s borders. The Summit County Collaborative Against Human Trafficking is raising awareness and supporting victims, and I’m thankful for their efforts. As Ohio takes action locally, I’ll continue working to pass a federal law that would help law enforcement identify and stop human trafficking in a variety of work places,” said Husted.

Husted holds a human trafficking roundtable with community leaders in Akron.

Husted’s bipartisan bill would direct the Department of Labor to train its employees to identify human trafficking as they encounter it at job sites and to refer suspected trafficking crimes to law enforcement.

During a recent appearance on Special Report with Bret Baier, Husted stressed the importance of unity and cooperation in fighting these crimes. In 2024, law enforcement recorded 334 human trafficking cases involving 509 victims in Ohio.

The Summit County Collaborative Against Human Trafficking is dedicated to increasing the community’s awareness of human trafficking and building a strong network of resources and recovery services for survivors to access across Summit County.
