“I’m supporting this bill to make sure American taxpayers with sincere moral and religious pro-life beliefs are never forced to fund abortion. I’ll continue to back solutions to support mothers and families and protect unborn children.”

WASHINGTON – Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) joined Sen. Roger Wicker’s (R-Miss) No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2025. The bill would make permanent the Hyde Amendment, which prevents taxpayer dollars from funding abortions. Current policies require an annual vote by Congress to ensure the Hyde Amendment continues.

“For decades, the Hyde Amendment has saved lives and ensured that taxpayers don’t have to fund abortions. Yet pro-abortion Democrats fight to remove this policy every year. I’m supporting this bill to make sure American taxpayers with sincere moral and religious pro-life beliefs are never forced to fund abortion. I’ll continue to back solutions to support mothers and families and protect unborn children,” said Husted.

In addition to permanently protecting federal taxpayer funds from paying for abortion, the bill would:

  • Clarify that federal health insurance plans cannot cover abortions with funds authorized or appropriated by federal law;
  • Codify the Smith Amendment, which would prevent federal employees’ health care plans from funding abortion;
  • Prohibit abortion in federal health facilities (such as Defense Department and Veterans Affairs hospitals) and ensure that no federal employee provides abortions during the course of his or her employment;
  • Ensure that elective abortion is not deductible for tax purposes by amending Section 213 of the Internal Revenue Code; and
  • Ensure that Affordable Care Act premium assistance subsidies provided in the form of refundable, advanceable tax credits are not used to pay for health insurance plans that include abortion, except in cases of rape, incest or when the life of the mother is at risk.
