Dear friends and neighbors,
May is National Foster Care Month, a cause very close to many Ohioans’ hearts, including my own. I started my life in a foster home for two months until my wonderful parents, Jim and Judy Husted, adopted me. My own life’s experiences—along with my faith—shape my belief that every child deserves a secure and loving home.

View my remarks here.
During the 2024-2025 school year, Ohio had more than 14,000 children in foster care.
In the United States Senate, I’m working on many legislative efforts to:
- Support youth aging out of foster care
- Raise awareness about adoption
- Protect expectant mothers and potential adoptive families
- Make it easier for children in foster care to find their future homes
The Senate also passed my resolution recognizing May as National Foster Care Month.
There is still work left to be done to support foster and adoptive parents, and ensure every child has the opportunity to grow up in a safe, stable, and loving home.
