Husted appointed to Senate Committee on Appropriations

My overarching goal as a United States Senator for Ohio is to provide excellent service and put Ohioans first, and joining the Appropriations Committee allows me to further deliver on this mission.”

WASHINGTON – Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee announced her appointment of Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) to serve on the powerful Appropriations Committee, after Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) was confirmed as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.

The committee is responsible for drafting legislation that allocates federal funds to government agencies, departments and organizations each fiscal year.

My overarching goal as a United States Senator for Ohio is to provide excellent service and put Ohioans first, and joining the Senate Appropriations Committee allows me to further deliver on this mission. My assignment on Appropriations will allow me to be a stronger voice in fighting for the needs of our state while finding savings to protect hard-earned tax dollars. I’m honored Chair Collins selected me to serve, and I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to secure Ohio priorities while helping right our financial ship,” said Husted.

“Senator Husted will be an excellent addition to the Appropriations Committee. I am confident he will be a strong partner in our work to ensure that federal spending delivers real, fiscally responsible results for both the American people and the people of Ohio,” said Chair Collins.

Husted will serve on the following subcommittees:

The Senate Appropriations Committee is the largest committee in the U.S. Senate, consisting of 29 members in the 119th Congress. Its role is defined by the U.S. Constitution, which requires “appropriations made by law” prior to the expenditure of any money from the federal treasury. Within the Senate Appropriations Committee, there are 12 subcommittees.

The full committee and its subcommittees draft legislation that funds federal government agencies. Each appropriations subcommittee reviews the president’s budget request, gathers testimony from government officials and drafts funding legislation for the coming fiscal year. The full Appropriations Committee will review and modify the bills in the markup process and approve them for consideration by the full Senate.
